For twenty years Dr. Don Kerson has practiced psychiatry in downtown Manhattan and in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn. For ten years (90-00) he was the medical director of the Long Island Consultation Center, the fourth largest free standing mental health and substance abuse clinic in New York State. Dr. Kerson was an undergraduate in biochemistry at Brown University, earned his M. D. from the University of Vermont and completed his training at the New York University Medical Center Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Kerson is a specialist in the treatment of adults with attention deficit disorder and is specifically interested in the integration of psychotherapy with medication for adults with ADD and depression. Dr. Kerson's new book, Getting Unstuck: Unraveling the Knot of Depression, Attention, and Trauma, presents the understandings and techniques gathered over his broad clinical experience. In addition to his ongoing medication and therapy practice, Dr Kerson is now engaged in the effort to create a group therapy program based on the therapeutic methods outlined in his book. The group is a time limited (10 weeks) skills based program designed to teach deep relaxation, address the subtle effects of childhood trauma and release the innate ability of the mind to train the brain.
